The Muhlenberg men's soccer team extended its Centennial Conference unbeaten streak to four with a 2-2 tie under the lights at Washington College.
With three games remaining in the regular season, the Mules (5-5-3, 3-1-2) are in third place in the CC with 11 points, behind Johns Hopkins (16) and Dickinson (14) and narrowly ahead of Haverford (9).
Their last three opponents? Haverford (at home on Wednesday), Johns Hopkins (at home on Saturday), and Dickinson (away on Halloween, the last day of the regular season).
Muhlenberg scored both of its goals off long throws by graduate student
Lorenzo Vargas-Clarke. In the 16th minute, fellow graduate student
Sim Dorsey headed in a throw at the back post. It was the third straight game scoring a goal for Dorsey
(pictured above); he's the first Mule player to accomplish that since 2023.
The Shoremen (2-5-6, 0-4-2) tied the game off a set piece late in the first half, but the Mules took their second lead early in the first half when Vargas-Clarke's throw went through the hands of the Washington goalie, hit the crossbar, and caromed down off the back of the goalie and into the net for an own goal.
Washington tied the game back up with 19:30 to play.
Muhlenberg came the closest to breaking the 2-2 deadlock when junior
Owen Zoeller took a rip in the 83rd minute that the Shoremen goalie had to parry over the crossbar.
The Mules have played their share of draws lately, 18 in the last three seasons, but this was their first 2-2 tie in which each team scored once in each half since 2019.
