Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Holds Off Gettysburg for 500th Win

The Muhlenberg field hockey team built a 2-0 lead and held on for a 2-1 win at Gettysburg - the 500th victory in program history.

Mule field hockey has an all-time record of 500-366-35 in 67 seasons. Of the 500 wins, 16 have come against Gettysburg, and the latest came just 10 days after the Bullets had defeated 10th-ranked Franklin & Marshall.

Three days after stopping 21 shots in Muhlenberg's game against F&M, sophomore Brenna Fitzpatrick was dazzling in goal again, recording 12 saves to help the visitors overcome deficits of 19-6 in shots and 12-5 in penalty corners. Fitzpatrick made half of her saves in the third quarter, including three in a row in one sequence off a penalty corner.

The Mules (5-9, 2-4) played from ahead almost the whole game, taking a 1-0 lead when junior Jocelyn Morgan scored her 11th goal of the season. Morgan took the insertion from junior Grace Koloras (pictured above) on the first penalty corner of the game and lofted a shot high into the back of the net. At 1:46 into the game, it was the earliest goal for Muhlenberg since 2018.

Morgan played a big role in the second goal as well, this time with her defense. After tackling the ball away from a Gettysburg back about 25 yards from the goal, Morgan sped into the circle and sent the ball towards the right post, where senior Rachel Hager knocked it in for her third career goal.

The Bullets (8-5, 2-4) spoiled the shutout with 6:22 remaining in the fourth quarter, but the Muhlenberg defense held strong and did not allow a shot for the rest of the game. The win not only spoiled Gettysburg's Homecoming, but it also avenged a 6-1 loss last season.
