The Muhlenberg Mules claimed possession of the Sodexo Cup once more with a convincing 78-45 victory over crosstown rival Moravian Saturday afternoon.
The Mules showed no signs of rust after being off for over three weeks, racing out to a 40-18 advantage after the first 20 minutes of action. The hosts out-rebounded and out-hustled the opposition throughout the game, especially so in the first quarter; 12 of Muhlenberg's 20 first-quarter points came as a result of a second-chance opportunity.
Among those were a pair of and-1 layups courtesy of
Avery McNulty and
Mia Fitzgerald.
Veronica Dawson also put in work on the offensive glass, finishing with a game-high four offensive rebounds.
That tenacity showed itself on both sides of the floor. The Greyhounds made their first three-point make before missing their next 17 (5.6%) and finished the game shooting just 24.5% from the field. The wingspan and length of McNulty and Fitzgerald paired with the rebounding effort of
Lyndsey Costigan ensured that there were no easy buckets for Moravian.
McNulty led the Mules with 15 points thanks to a pair of threes and a perfect 7-for-7 mark from the free throw line, while
Linzy Roberson and the aforementioned Dawson poured in 13 apiece. McNulty was one of four players who made four or more free throws to contribute to a season-best mark in makes (26) and percentage (81.3%). Among that quartet was freshman guard
Maggie Burns, who went 6-for-8 from the charity stripe en route to a season-best eight points.
The win marks the fourth straight for women's basketball and gives Muhlenberg a 6-1 advantage over Moravian in the 2025-26 installment of the Crosstown Clash. It also gives head coach
Ron Rohn one last victory over his Greyhound counterpart, Mary Beth Spirk. The pair was honored for their lengthy tenures at their respective schools during a pregame ceremony.
