The Muhlenberg women's soccer team continued its early-season surge, edging Neumann 2-1 in its first road game of the season.
The win was the third in a row for the Mules (3-1), who needed only four games to top their win total from all of last season. The three-game winning streak is the first for Muhlenberg since 2019.
Sophomore
Stella Del Sordo played a role in both goals. Midway through the first half, she sent a through ball down the right side of the field to freshman
Madelyn Hill, who dribbled to the end line and sent a cross through the box. The Neumann goalie missed on her diving attempt to deflect the cross, and it rolled all the way to the back post, where freshman
Kaylie Thran was waiting to knock it in.
The goal was the fourth of the season for Thran, who became the first Muhlenberg first-year player to net a goal in three straight games since 2015.
Early in the second half, senior
Anna May drew a foul just outside the box on the end line. Del Sordo
(pictured above) headed in May's free kick for her first career goal.
The 2-0 lead lasted for about 11 minutes, until the Knights (0-3-1) put in a long free kick to cut the margin in half. The Mules held Neumann to just one shot over the remaining 24 minutes, however, and junior
Megan Stairs saved it to preserve the lead.
