Three-set wins in the final two matches on the court gave the Muhlenberg men's tennis team a thrilling 4-3 win against Albright in its first home match of the year.
The Mules trailed 3-2 and were in danger of losing when freshman
Sam Stein fell behind 5-4 in the third set of his No. 6 singles match. With his opponent serving for the match, Stein broke at love, then overcame a 15-40 deficit to hold his serve and take a 6-5 lead. Stein won the match by breaking again when his opponent double-faulted at deuce.
That left it up to junior No. 3 player
Matt Miller, who dropped his first set in a tiebreak but came back to win the second, 6-2. The deciding set was on serve at 3-3 before Miller recorded a break, dropping a forehand lob just inside the baseline on game point. Miller then held and broke again to win the set, 6-3, and the match for the Mules.Â
Muhlenberg swept the doubles, with Miller teaming up with freshman
Casey Knipe for a 6-1 win at No. 2 and the team of juniors
Owen Dyer and
William Rose pulling out a 7-5 victory at No. 1.
