The Muhlenberg baseball team scored 12 runs in the first three innings and went on to a 15-9 win against Lehigh Valley rival DeSales.
The Mules (15-16) pounded out 17 hits in defeating the Bulldogs (15-15) for the first time since 2015.
Seniors
Brendan Bussiere and
Aidan Legner led the offense with four hits apiece. Bussiere went 4-for-5, driving in five runs with a two-run triple in the second, a two-run single in the third and an RBI single in the sixth that gave Muhlenberg a 15-4 lead.
Legner also was 4-for-5, including a double, and scored four times.
Sophomore
Marc Quarrie had three singles and scored four runs, setting a school record with 51 runs scored this season. The old mark of 49 had stood since 2008.
Senior
Brendan Hughes and sophomore
Spencer Hobson recorded a pair of hits apiece, with Hobson driving in three runs.
After giving up a single run in each of the first four innings, the Mules got strong middle relief from sophomore
Frank Kern (pictured above), who struck out three of the six batters he faced in two perfect innings, and freshman
Jack Ufberg, who faced the minimum three batters in the seventh.
