Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lax Wins Playoff Rematch on Late Goal

The Muhlenberg women's lacrosse team won a thrilling game against the team that ended its season last year, defeating Washington College 8-7.

Senior Emily Vaughan scored the winning goal, her fourth of the game, with 2:07 remaining, as the Mules (11-2, 3-1) avenged a 17-9 loss to the Shorewomen (7-7, 3-2) in the first round of last year's Centennial Conference playoffs.

The defenses dominated the game, and in particular the goalies. Senior Ellison Ervin tied her season high with 13 saves, stopping all but one shot on goal in the first half to send the game into the break with Muhlenberg holding a 5-1 lead.

Washington College netted the first four goals of the third quarter, however, to tie the game, and took a 7-6 lead on a goal with 9:37 remaining.

The Mule defense shut the door for the rest of the game; in fact, even though the Shorewomen had four more possessions, they only took one more shot, and that was a desperation long-distance attempt with time running out.

Sophomore Emma Youngling netted her second goal with 6:52 on the clock to tie the score. The winner came when Vaughan took a pass from junior Danielle Sautner and beat the Washington goalie high to tie her career best for goals in a game.

Vaughan also recorded 3 caused turnovers and 4 ground balls in the game, moving to within four of the school record for career caused turnovers.

Senior Jillian Kubikowski and sophomore Annalisa Bio each finished with a goal and an assist, while Sautner recorded 3 assists for the second straight game.

Muhlenberg's 11-2 record is its best through 13 games since 2017. The Mules are tied for second in the CC heading into Wednesday's game at nationally ranked Haverford.
