The Muhlenberg softball team faced an undefeated team and a winless team on its second day at the Triangle Collegiate Classic, and neither opponent's status changed after playing the Mules.

Powerhouse Virginia Wesleyan, currently ranked sixth in Division III and a three-time national champion since 2017, defeated Muhlenberg 8-4 in the morning game. The Mules (5-3) rebounded to defeat Randolph, 8-0, in the second game.

Muhlenberg took advantage of a Virginia Wesleyan fielding error to take an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. It was the first time the Marlins (9-0) trailed this season, but they strung together five two-out hits in the second to score six runs and take command of the game.

The Mules scored two runs again in the first inning of the Randolph game, on a two-run single by senior Kaitlyn Buurman, and this time kept adding to their lead, ending the game on the eight-run rule in the sixth inning.

Freshmen Morgan Bobrowski and Abigail Kim and senior Justine Bergara combined on the five-hit shutout. Kim worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the third and pitched a scoreless fourth to earn her first career win, and Bergara did not allow a hit in her two frames.

After Muhlenberg loaded the bases on three infield hits to start the second, freshman Hailey Godin hit one to the outfield, clearing the bases with a triple. Buurman (pictured above) followed with a single for her third RBI of the game to make it 6-0.

Senior Kaya Mahy extended the margin to 7-0 by belting a one-out home run in the fifth. It was the fourth home run for Mahy, who has hit a four-bagger on each of the four days that the Mules have played this season. She is only the second player in program history to hit four home runs in the first eight games of the season.

Mahy hit one a considerably shorter distance in the sixth, dropping down a bunt that advanced the game-ending run to third, from where it scored on a single by graduate student Gillian Zack.

Godin, Buurman, Zack and freshmen Ava Storlazzi and Averi Galioto each had a pair of hits against Randolph.
