Playing for the first time in three weeks, the Muhlenberg women's basketball team picked up right where it left off in 2024, defeating Moravian 63-47 for its 11th straight win.
The 11-game run is tied for the fifth-longest in program history, two short of the school record. The Mules (11-1) also completed their second straight sweep of Lehigh Valley rivals DeSales and Moravian, defeating both on the road for the first time since the 2017-18 season.
Muhlenberg got incredibly balanced scoring against the Greyhounds (2-9), with seven players scoring between seven and 10 points. Senior
Rachel Saxton led the Mules with 10, junior
Katie McGrath and freshman
Veronica Dawson came off the bench to score 9 apiece, while senior
Ava Connolly and sophomores
Lyndsey Costigan and
Faith Tucker contributed 8 each. Senior
Emily Unger scored 7 points and added a team-high 6 rebounds.
Moravian scored the first five points of the game, but a 12-2 run capped by a fast-break layup by Saxton
(pictured above) gave Muhlenberg a 16-9 lead in the final minute of the first quarter. McGrath scored eight of her nine points in the run, including a sequence in which she blocked a shot, got the rebound and went the length of the court for a layup and one.
Unger's three-pointer three minutes into the second quarter extended the margin to double digits for the first time, at 22-11, and the entire second half was played with the Mules enjoying a lead of at least 10 points.
