The Muhlenberg volleyball team swept a tri-match at King's, easily handling Maritime in three sets before coming from behind to knock off the hosts in four.
The two wins evened the Mules' record at 5-5 as they head into the start of Centennial Conference play this weekend.Â
Muhlenberg posted one of the most decisive wins in program history in its first match, defeating Maritime 25-10, 25-10, 25-8. The 28 points allowed were the second-fewest all-time, topped only by a 25-8, 25-7, 25-5 win against Rust in 2013.
The Mules made only seven attack errors in the match and held the Privateers to negative hitting. Four Muhlenberg players recorded kills on at least half their swings: freshman
Abigail Oswari (6 in 10), sophomore
Kelliann Keogh (6 in 11), senior
Brooke Shiver (5 in 7) and freshman
Olivia Bruno (4 in 5). Freshman
Ansley Asche served the final six points of the match, with two of the points coming on aces.
The match against King's, which came in only one loss all season, was far more competitive. After the Monarchs took the first set, 25-23, Muhlenberg roared back to win the next three, 25-13, 26-24, 25-12.
The Mules held a 23-16 lead in the pivotal third set, and King's was down 24-19 before reeling off five straight points to tie the set. Sophomore
Jenny Ryan put Muhlenberg back ahead with a kill, then assisted senior
Rachel Jacobs for a kill on the final point.Â
With Ryan serving, the Mules jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the fourth set en route to closing out the match.
