Freshman
Chase Kusko scored 1:11 into overtime to give the Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team a thrilling 14-13 win at Colorado College.
The Mules (2-5) led 7-1 at one point, but the Tigers (4-2), who received votes in this week's USILA Division III poll, clawed back and eventually drew even early in the fourth quarter.
Colorado College took its first, and only, lead at 13-12 with 8:22 remaining, but junior
Andrew Sellitto ripped in a shot from distance 1:13 later to knot the score again.
That set the stage for a tense final seven minutes of regulation. Muhlenberg had the majority of possession and a couple of extra-man opportunities but could not score. Mule senior goalie
Stephen Krug stopped a shot at close range in the final 40 seconds. Muhlenberg cleared but could not get a shot off in the remaining time, and the game went into overtime.
Junior
Griffin Minuto, who won a career-high 17 faceoffs, won the opening face of the extra period. The Mules took a shot that was saved and then turned the ball over, but senior
Matthew Regan picked up an errant Tiger clearing pass to give the ball right back to the visitors.Â
Starting with the ball just outside the box to the right of the net, Kusko carried all the way behind the cage, then darted past his defender and shot the ball in to give Muhlenberg its first overtime win on an opponent's home field since 2010.
Senior
Wyatt Malia (pictured above, middle) led the offense with 4 goals, moving into a tie for fifth on the Mules' all-time list with 79 in his career. Senior
Ryan May scored a career-high 4 points on 2 goals and 2 assists, while freshman
Jack Bill netted 3 goals for his second hat trick.
Junior
Reed Thompson notched his first goal of the season.
Regan picked up 6 ground balls, matching his career high, to lead a defense that forced 27 turnovers. Senior
Aidan Murphy and junior
Matthew Hochegger scooped up 4 apiece.
