Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Comeback Falls Short

The Muhlenberg women's basketball team nearly erased a 10-point deficit in the final quarter but fell at Haverford, 44-41.

The Mules (12-10, 7-10) trailed 40-30 with just over five minutes to play and crept back into the game by holding the Fords (7-15, 4-13) to one field goal the rest of the way.

A three-point play by junior Ava Connolly, followed by a steal and fullcourt layup by senior Caroline Horst, cut the gap in half. After Haverford made a basket, junior Rachel Saxton and Connolly combined to make four straight free throws, bringing the Mules to within 42-39 with a minute left.

The Fords were called for traveling on the other end, and Connolly hit a lefty baseline runner with less than 30 seconds left to shave the deficit to a single point.

Muhlenberg had two possessions in the remaining time with a chance to tie in the remaining time but could not find the mark.

Connolly led all scorers with 18 points, while Saxton scored 9 and added 4 steals. Horst (pictured above) finished with 6 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists.

Junior Jenna Stockfeder, who began the night tied for the Centennial Conference lead in rebounding, yanked down 12 more.
