Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

20-20 Vision for Men's Basketball Seniors

Behind 20-point efforts from both of its seniors, the Muhlenberg men's basketball team rolled to its biggest win of the season, 90-61 against Washington College.

The win left the Mules (7-12, 6-6) in sole possession of fifth place in the Centennial Conference, a game ahead of both Ursinus and Dickinson. With six games remaining in the regular season, it appears that those three teams are battling for the final two CC playoff spots.

Honored in Senior Day ceremonies prior to the game, Brandon Goldberg scored a career-high 21 points and Giovanni Rubino added 20. Goldberg pulled down 10 rebounds to record his fifth double-double of the season, while Rubino just missed the first of his career, tying his career high with 9 assists.

Junior Jayson Williams-Johnson chipped in with 18 points, matching his career high of six three-pointers, while freshman Peter Stanton-Shepherd scored 13 points and junior Luke Gordos 11 as Muhlenberg placed all five starters in double figures for the second time in the last four games.

The Mules torched Washington's zone defense, shooting 50 percent (15-of-30) from three-point range. The 15 threes were three short of the school record and were the result of unselfish play: Muhlenberg recorded assists on 24 of its 28 field goals, with Gordos adding 7 assists to Rubino's 9.

Muhlenberg made 10 of its first 15 attempts from beyond the arc, opening up a 39-17 lead with seven minutes left in the first half. Although the shooting pace slowed down, the Shoremen (3-16, 1-11) never got closer than 18 points in the second half. The Mules led by as many as 33 points in hitting the 90-point mark in a regulation CC home game for the first time in 10 years.

On defense, Muhlenberg held Washington's top scorer to 8 points, 17 fewer than he scored in the first meeting of the season.
