The Muhlenberg field hockey team scored the first goal but fell to Scranton, 3-1, in its season opener.
 
The Mules broke through five minutes into the second quarter when sophomore Erin DiSandro tipped in a pass from classmate Abba Diglio, who had collected a rebound of her own saved shot.
 
The lead did not last long, however, as the Royals scored twice in a span of 1:53 later in the period.
 
After Scranton netted another goal in the third quarter, Muhlenberg made a strong push in the fourth, winning five penalty corners. But the Mules were unable to capitalize.
 
Muhlenberg finished the game with advantages of 11-10 in shots and 10-2 in corners.
