The Muhlenberg volleyball team came back from a big deficit to close out Drew in four sets.
The Mules (9-3) got huge numbers from sophomore
Christina Marcin (16 kills, season-high 22 digs, 3 aces), junior
Rachel Jacobs (career-high 13 kills), senior
Alyssa Faville (31 digs), senior
Christina Dalton (21 assists, 10 digs) and freshman
Jenny Ryan (20 assists, 7 digs, 3 aces) in the win.
After winning the first two sets, 25-20 and 25-21, Muhlenberg fell behind 9-1 in the third set. The Mules made a late push and closed to within 22-18, but the Rangers (1-9) held on to extend the match with a 25-19 win.
The fourth set started out similarly, with Drew opening up an 8-1 advantage. Muhlenberg flipped the script, however, with a 9-0 run behind the serving of junior
Esmae Oehler. Marcin
(pictured above) and freshman
Sierra Addy each had two kills and a block in the run, which ended with the Mules leading 16-10.
Drew rebounded to cut the gap to one, at 17-16, but the Mules finished with another run, scoring eight of the final nine points to end the match. A solo block by senior
Isabella Pontrelli accounted for the final point.
Muhlenberg was strong at the end of the first sets too, ending the first on a 10-2 run and breaking away from an 18-all tie to win the second.
