Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Blanks FDU

The Muhlenberg women's soccer team tuned up for Centennial Conference play with a 1-0 home shutout of FDU-Florham.

With the result, the Mules (2-1-2) matched their win total from all of last season.

Senior Abby Adams scored the lone goal of the game – the first of her career – with 28:22 remaining in the second half. Sophomore Anna May set up the goal by drawing a foul just outside the box. Senior Lexi Sipos took the free kick and forced the FDU goalie to make a diving save. The ball caromed off her hands right to Adams, who knocked it into the empty net.

The rest was up to the Muhlenberg defense, which notched its third straight clean sheet against a Devils squad that had not been shut out in 12 straight games dating back to last season. FDU (3-2-1) won the ECAC championship last year and finished with a record of 17-5-1 that included a 5-0 win against the Mules.

Reigning Centennial Conference defensive player of the week Sara Pecorelli made a pair of saves for her eighth career shutout and got some help from the crossbar, which kept three FDU shots out of the goal in the first half.

Muhlenberg, which opens up CC play on Saturday at defending national champion Johns Hopkins, had a 17-13 advantage in shots, nearly matching its total of 18 shots from the first four games of the season.
