Despite dropping its regular-season finale to Gettysburg, the Muhlenberg women's lacrosse team earned a playoff berth.
The Mules (11-5, 4-5) clinched the sixth and final Centennial Conference playoff spot when Ursinus defeated Dickinson, 17-15, in a game that ended late in the first half of the Muhlenberg-Gettysburg game. Muhlenberg will travel to third-seeded Haverford for a first-round game on Wednesday, May 3.
The Mules took an early 2-1 lead against Gettysburg (14-3, 9-0) on goals by senior
Emily Gaffney and sophomore
Emily Vaughan in the first half of the first quarter. But the eighth-ranked Bullets, who outscored their nine CC opponents by an average of 12.4 goals per game, scored 11 of the next 12 goals and went on to win, 20-6.
Vaughan and junior
Nicole Steiner each netted a pair of goals for Muhlenberg. Steiner's pair gave her 55 for the season, a total topped by one three different players in the Mule program's history.
