Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Wins on Late Goal

The Muhlenberg women's lacrosse team scored its biggest win of the season, edging Dickinson 16-15.

The Mules (9-3, 2-3) overcame an early three-goal deficit to post their first win in Carlisle since 2014. The Red Devils (7-5, 1-4) received votes in the Division III poll for two weeks earlier this season.

Junior Nicole Steiner scored the winning goal on a free-position shot with 1:16 left in the fourth quarter. It was the 80th goal of her career and her fourth of the game.

Also recording hat tricks for Muhlenberg were senior Emily Gaffney and sophomore Jillian Kubikowski with three apiece. Freshman Ava Milia tied her career high with 6 points on a pair of goals and 4 assists.

Dickinson led 4-1 midway through the first quarter and 5-3 at the end of the period. The Mules finally drew even with 8:29 left in the first half on a goal by sophomore Emily Vaughan, and from that point on, neither team led by more than two goals.

Muhlenberg took its first lead at 9-8 on a goal by Milia with 2:11 left in the half. Milia assisted Steiner for a goal just 24 seconds later to make it 10-8, but the Red Devils scored the next four goals to go back up by two.

Gaffney's free-position goal and the first career goal for freshman Annalisa Bio gave the Mules a 14-12 lead late in the third. Dickinson responded with the next two, sending the teams into the final period tied at 14.

The teams traded goals in the first 5:06 of the fourth quarter, and the score remained 15-15 for a stretch of more than eight minutes until Steiner broke the tie.

Dickinson controlled the ensuing draw, but Vaughan forced a turnover with less than a minutes remaining. Muhlenberg ran out most of the remaining time to clinch its second straight 16-15 win against the Red Devils.

Freshman Meaghan Haughney made 5 saves to earn the win in her first career start. Vaughan finished with 5 draw controls, 3 ground balls and 3 caused turnovers.

Kubikowski (pictured above) and senior Grace Bruther picked up 4 ground balls apiece.
