The Muhlenberg softball team fell to TCNJ, 9-2, and Worcester State, 7-5, on its second day in Myrtle Beach.
Freshman
Maddy Svenningsen went 4-for-4 in the TCNJ game, tying the school record for hits in a game. She singled and scored in the first, singled in the third, doubled in the fifth and doubled in the Mules' second run in the seventh.
Despite taking the loss, sophomore
Justine Bergara struck out a career-high 9 batters in 6.2 innings in the opening game.
The second game was an unusual back-and-forth affair. The Mules (3-5) forced extra innings while managing only three hits. They scored a run in the first on a passed ball and two in the third on a double steal (by Svenningsen and junior
Sophia Cicchetti) and a wild pitch.
A bases-loaded walk to Cicchetti made it 4-2 in the fourth, but Worcester State scored three in the sixth to take a 5-4 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, sophomore
Kaya Mahy walked, stole second, went to third on a groundout and plated the tying run on another groundout.
The Lancers scored two runs in the top of the eighth to go up 7-5, and Muhlenberg could not push a run across in the bottom of the inning.
