The Muhlenberg men's basketball team pulled away late in the first half and went on to complete a season sweep of McDaniel with a 78-65 road win.
The victory edged the Mules (13-8, 8-6) closer to a Centennial Conference playoff berth. With four games remaining in the regular season, Muhlenberg has a three-game lead over its next two opponents - Haverford and Franklin & Marshall, who are tied for the sixth and final playoff spot.
Sophomore
Luke Gordos and junior
Giovanni Rubino combined to score more points than the Green Terror (8-12, 4-10) in the first half. The Mules led only 16-15 midway through the opening period but outscored McDaniel 28-15 in the final 10 minutes of the half to take a 44-30 lead into the locker room. Gordos and Rubino each scored 16 points in the half.
Muhlenberg stayed hot at the start of the second half, holding McDaniel without a field goal for the first five minutes while going on a 10-2 run to open up a 22-point lead. The margin swelled to 28 points, at 66-38, midway through the second half before the Green Terror closed the gap somewhat against the Mule reserves in the last few minutes.
Gordos
(pictured above) finished with 22 points, doubling his previous career high of 11, on 8-of-11 shooting. He also blocked 3 shots and did not commit a turnover in 33 minutes. Rubino ended with 18 points.
Senior
Tommy McGuire pulled down a team-high 8 rebounds and also scored a pair of points on a dunk in the first half.
