In its first game ever as a nationally ranked team, Muhlenberg men's lacrosse pulled away in the second half for a 17-7 win against Colorado College.
The Mules (1-1) led 8-5 at the break after the Tigers (0-2), who have played in nine of the last 11 NCAA Tournaments, scored a goal with 2 seconds left in the half. But Muhlenberg had all the momentum after halftime, reeling off eight straight goals to turn the game into a runaway.
Eleven different Muhlenberg players scored goals, including sophomore
Andrew Sellitto, who found the back of the cage three times for his first career hat trick. Senior
Dominick Visintin also notched a hat trick.Â
Graduate student
Ethan Grossman finished with five points on two goals and three assists, and senior
Jack Kraemer also assisted on three goals while scoring one.
The Mules jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter on goals by Grossman, Visintin, senior
Cooper Richards and junior
Jack Quinn. Colorado College ran off three goals in a span of a little more than three minutes in the second quarter, however, to close to within one at 5-4.
Three more goals by Muhlenberg preceded the late Tiger goal to end the first half. At the start of the third quarter, it was all Mules. Sellitto netted a pair of goals 37 seconds apart, and Visintin added his second of the game 42 seconds later. The three goals in 79 seconds extended the Mules' lead to 11-5.
Muhlenberg eventually ran its margin to 16-5 midway through the fourth quarter.
Senior
Clayton Abrecht (pictured above) scored his first career goal off a rebound late in the third quarter, and sophomore
Reed Thompson scored his first to close out the scoring in the fourth quarter. Sophomore
Nolan DiSora assisted on Thompson's goal for his first career point.
Junior
Matthew Regan played an outstanding game on defense, causing three turnovers and picking up four ground balls.Â
