The Muhlenberg men's basketball team went on a long scoring drought in the first half and lost to Johns Hopkins, 85-51, in the semifinals of the Centennial Conference playoffs.
The Blue Jays (23-3), ranked seventh in Division III, advance to face Swarthmore in the championship game. The Mules ended their season with a record of 18-9.
Muhlenberg led 16-15 after junior
Giovanni Rubino hit a jumper in the lane with 10:30 left in the first half. The Mules would not make another field goal until the 2:16 mark, however, and by that time Hopkins held a double-digit lead.
The Blue Jays ended the half on a 21-4 run and did not let Muhlenberg back in the game in the second half, allowing only one field goal in almost eight minutes to start the period.
Rubino finished with 15 points to become only the fourth different Mule to score 500 points in a season. His total of 510 points was the third-best in program history.
Graduate student
Dan Gaines (pictured above) scored 11 points to finish his career with 1,459 points, good for ninth on the program's all-time list. Sophomore
Luke Gordos added 12 points.
