The Muhlenberg men's basketball team closed out the regular season with an 86-70 Senior Day win against Washington College.
The Mules (17-8, 12-6) closed out the regular season tied with Gettysburg for third place in the Centennial Conference. The Bullets' win against Swarthmore gave them the third seed for the playoffs. Muhlenberg is the fourth seed and will host fifth-seeded Ursinus in a first-round game on Tuesday.
Muhlenberg's 12 CC wins tied the school record set in the 2012-13 season.
The Mules honored senior players
Bobby Lewit,
Matt Kempter,
Bryce Nash,
Tommy McGuire and
Justin Allen along with senior manager
Logan Rindock prior to the game. The five senior players all started, with Lewit, Kempter and Nash getting their first career starts, and helped Muhlenberg open up a 20-10 lead in the first seven minutes. The Mules led by at least five for the rest of the game in earning their 28th win in 29 all-time CC meetings with Washington at Memorial Hall.
McGuire had a Senior Day to remember, scoring a career-high 17 points on 7-of-7 shooting from the field to go along with 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 blocks. Nash (8) and Lewit (5) also reached career highs in points.
Junior
Giovanni Rubino led the Mules with 19 points to finish as the CC's leading scorer in league contests with an average of 19.6 points per game. Sophomore
Jayson Williams-Johnson added 11.
The Mules shot 54.4 percent from the field, their third straight game over 50 percent.
