Football Wins Regular-Season Finale

The Muhlenberg football team closed out its regular season with a 45-14 win at Montclair State.

With the victory, the Mules (9-1) reached the nine-win mark for the 12th time in program history – with six of those nine-win campaigns coming in the last nine seasons.

Up next for Muhlenberg, ranked seventh in Region V, is the postseason, either an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament (announced Sunday night) or a home Centennial-MAC Bowl Series game.

Junior Joe Repetti accounted for all five of the Mules' offensive touchdowns, passing for four and running for one. He was 17-of-25 for 272 yards through the air, throwing three of his TD passes to senior tight ends Matt McKenna and James Nye.

Muhlenberg's other touchdown came on a 47-yard interception return by graduate student Dominick Visintin – his first career score and the Mules' first pick-six since 2021.

Two members of the Muhlenberg secondary also made big plays on defense, with senior John Lohrer breaking up a fourth-down pass in the end zone to tie the school record of 13 pass breakups in a season and senior Alex Jr. Batista intercepting a pass in the end zone.

The Mules took their first possession at their own 14 and moved steadily down the field, converting two short third downs in a 14-play drive capped by a 1-yard flip from Repetti to McKenna.

The Red Hawks (5-5) answered with a long 15-play drive of their own to tie the score at 7-7 early in the second quarter.

Muhlenberg went three-and-out on its next drive, but after getting a defensive stop put up four touchdowns in a span of 8:18 to turn the game into a runaway.

Passes of 24 yards to senior Timothy Buda and 32 yards to senior Christopher Ardito set up Repetti's 3-yard scoring run with 8:57 left in the half.

After the defense forced a three-and-out, the offense needed only four plays to score again, with a career-long 38-yard reception by McKenna setting up Nye's 13th touchdown catch of the season, from 17 yards out.

On the sixth play of the ensuing Montclair drive, Visintin picked off a pass and raced down the sideline in front of the Mule bench to make it 28-7.

Muhlenberg got the ball back with 1:42 left in the half and scored in only five plays, the last two completions of 27 yards to Nye and 21 yards for McKenna's ninth touchdown of the season.

Buda caught a 33-yard TD pass in the third quarter, and senior Nick Stannard booted a 25-yard field goal late in the fourth to cap a drive that featured runs of 19, 26 and 22 yards by senior Aaron Daniels (pictured above).
