Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Rolls to 8th Win

The Muhlenberg men's soccer team scored twice in each half to win at William Paterson, 4-0.

The Mules, who earlier in the day moved up to No. 16 in the United Soccer Coaches Division III poll, extended their unbeaten streak to nine and improved to 8-1-1 on the season. It's the first time they have eight wins through 10 games since 2003.

Four different players scored goals for the Mules, who had a 24-4 advantage in shots. Since entering the national rankings last week, Muhlenberg has won three games by a combined 12-1, outshooting the three opponents by a margin of 65-11.

For the second straight game, the Mules opened the scoring in the first 10 minutes. With 9:32 elapsed, senior Zack Mikuta made a run down the left side and crossed the ball across the box to senior Taylan Akdag, who volleyed into the back of the net for his fourth goal in the last two games.

Senior Chris Richards doubled the lead less than five minutes later after making a run through the box and several Pioneer defenders. It was his 34th career goal, moving him into a tie for eighth place on the program's all-time list.

Muhlenberg struck early in the second half too, after Akdag sent a diagonal pass to senior Caleb Herring on the right sideline. Herring carried to the endline and cross the ball into the box, where senior Brandin Osborne put it in at the near post while sliding for his first goal of the season.

Osborne, pictured above celebrating with Herring, is the 12th different Muhlenberg player to score a goal this season.

Mikuta closed the scoring with 28:43 to play, beating the Paterson goalie to the far post after taking a pass from sophomore Elie Khalil.

Sophomore Ben Mulford (two saves) and junior Aidan Niggeman (one) combined on the Mules' fifth shutout of the season.
