The Muhlenberg men's soccer team scored early and held on for a 1-0 win at Ursinus.
The result kept the Mules (9-2-1, 4-1-1) in sole possession of third place in the Centennial Conference with two weeks remaining in the regular season. With 13 points, Muhlenberg trails Washington College (16) - its Senior Night opponent next Saturday - and Franklin & Marshall (14). Johns Hopkins is in fourth place with 10 points, and no other team has more than 6.
The lone goal came just 102 seconds into the game after junior
Zack Mikuta made a run out of the back down the left sideline to win a throwin. The long throw by freshman
Sam Roberts went off the head of an Ursinus player and into the middle of the box. Senior
Brandin Osborne tapped it back to senior
Luke Feeney, who knocked it in for his second goal in as many games.
The goal by Feeney
(pictured above) marked the first time in the last 30 years that the Mules scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win in the first five minutes.
Muhlenberg had several chances to extend its lead, taking 23 shots in the game. The Bears (8-4-1, 1-4-1) took 10 shots of their own, but sophomore
Ben Mulford made a season-high 6 saves in recording his 12th career shutout.
