Muhlenberg College Athletics

The Muhlenberg men's soccer team scored a late goal to forge a 1-1 tie at Washington College.

The Shoremen (1-3-3, 0-1-1), who won their first Centennial Conference championship last year, broke a scoreless tie early in the second half, less than three minutes after the Mules (3-3-2, 1-0-1) missed on a penalty kick.

Muhlenberg nearly tied the game in the 76th minute when senior Taylan Akdag's header of a well-placed pass by sophomore Jake Mendelson got past the Washington goalie, but a Shoreman back cleared the ball away before it crossed the goal line.

The Mules finally drew even with just 9:24 remaining in the game on a sequence that started when a long punt by freshman goalie Ben Mulford bounced all the way to the Washington goalie, who cleared it out of bounds. The ensuing throw-in by senior Tarin Morris has headed over the end line by a Shoreman player, and on the ensuing corner kick, freshman Trevor Mikuta (pictured above) put in the rebound of a saved shot by senior Brandin Osborne for his first career goal.  

Washington took the only shot in the remaining time, and it went wide, sending the Mules to their second straight 1-1 tie. 

Muhlenberg is undefeated through its first two CC games for the first time since 2014.
