A stout defense and a fourth-quarter goal gave the Muhlenberg field hockey team in 1-0 home win against Dickinson in the opening game of the Centennial Conference season.

The game was true to form for the two teams, who have now played 10 straight games decided by one goal. The Mules (3-4, 1-0) and Red Devils (1-6, 0-1) combined for only 11 shots and eight penalty corners in the the closely contested, back-and-forth game.

Muhlenberg made good on the second of its four corners to score the only goal it would need. With 10:42 left in the fourth quarter, freshman Abba Diglio deflected in a blast from junior Nicole Randazza to break the stalemate. It was the sixth goal of the season for Diglio, who entered the game tied for 10th in Division III in goals by a freshman. 

The Mule defense took care of the rest, turning away the Red Devils on their only penalty corner of the fourth quarter. Muhlenberg did not allow a shot on goal all game to Dickinson, the 2021 CC runner-up, in recording its first shutout of the season.
