The Muhlenberg men's soccer team dominated from start to finish en route to a 4-0 shutout of William Paterson.
The Mules (2-2), who came in without a first-half goal all season, got off to a quick start when senior
Chris Richards headed in a long cross from senior
Taylan Akdag for his 21st career goal just 7:39 after the opening whistle.
Muhlenberg had an 8-1 advantage in shots in the first half against the previously undefeated Pioneers (2-1-1) but still only the one goal on the scoreboard. The Mules opened the second half with a barrage of shots, however, and finally doubled their lead when sophomore
Noah Pietila ran down a long ball from sophomore
Jake Mendelson and touched the ball past the Paterson goalie.
Junior
Andrew Gaines converted an endline cross from senior
Francois D'Elia to make it 3-0 midway through the second half, and junior
Luke Feeney closed the scoring with 1:23 to play by putting in a rebound of his own saved shot.
The Mules played the game with two new starters on defense - sophomore
Kevin Adams, who previously played midfield, and freshman
Trevor Mikuta, who made his first career start - and notched their first shutout of the season after allowing at least two goals in each of the first three games. Muhlenberg allowed only four shots, and freshman
Ben Mulford nedeed to make just one save (on a shot from long distance) to record his first career shutout.
