The Muhlenberg baseball team erased a four-run deficit but lost 9-8 when Moravian scored twice in the bottom of the ninth.
The Mules (11-9) trailed 6-2 after six innings before erupting for five runs in the seventh to take the lead. The first three runs came in on a bases-loaded walk and a throwing error, and freshman
Brendan Hughes singled in the tying run. Junior
Caleb Tereska drew another base-loaded walk to put Muhlenberg in the lead.Â
After the Greyhounds (13-9) tied the score in the bottom of the seventh, the Mules regained the lead in the top of the eighth. Sophomore
Nick Belli singled with one out for his first career hit and came in on a bases-loaded walk to junior
Jake Swerdloff.
Muhlenberg was one out away from the win, but back-to-back two-out singles in the bottom of the ninth brought in the tying and winning runs.
Tereska went 4-for-4 with a double, driving in two runs. Belli reached base in four of six plate appearances, with three walks to go along with the single.
The Mules used seven pitchers in the non-conference game. Sophomore
Drew Walker (pictured above) pitched the longest, tossing three hitless innings in his first career game. Sophomore
Joe Mattes and freshman
Ethan Brochin each hurled a scoreless inning out of the bullpeen.
