Despite two noteworthy home runs, the Muhlenberg baseball team fell at home to Haverford, 17-7.
Sophomore
Jonathan Toth gave the Mules (13-18, 2-10) their first run by hitting a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth. It was his Centennial Conference-leading 10th home run of the season, making him just the second player in program history to reach double digits in a season. The school record of 11 was set in 2008. Through games of Sunday, only four underclassmen in Division III had hit 10 home runs this season.
The home run also made Toth the first Mule since 2016 with 30 runs scored and 30 RBI in the same season.Â
The Fords (16-15, 7-5) led 6-1 after Toth's home run and extended their lead to 13-1 before Muhlenberg came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. The Mules scored one run and had the bases loaded with nobody out when senior
Danny Monzo hit one over the fence down the right-field line for a grand slam. Monzo's second career home run was the first grand slam by a Muhlenberg left-handed hitter at Cedarcreek Field since 2012.Â
Junior
Christian Schwarz came off the bench to go 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI singles, and senior
Ryan Hebert also had two hits, including a triple, and stole his 10th base of the season.
Toth and Hebert also were both hit by a pitch in the game, becoming their first pair of Mule teammates ever plunked 10 times in the season season. Toth has been hit 11 times and Hebert 10.
