The Muhlenberg softball team came from behind twice to defeat McDaniel, 8-5, and earn a split of its first Centennial Conference doubleheader.
The Green Terror took the opener, 2-0, and led the nightcap, 3-2, before freshman
Kaya Mahy delivered a two-run single in the top of the third.Â
McDaniel tied the game in the bottom of the third and went ahead, 5-4, with a single run in the sixth.
The Mules (8-10, 1-1) were down to their final out in the top of the seventh when Mahy drew a walk after being behind 0-2. Sophomore
Raya Kunes followed with a single, and freshman
Ava Calabrese brought home Mahy with a hard-hit ground ball under the glove of the shortstop.
The two teams remained tied through the eighth and ninth and went to international tiebreaker rules in the 10th - the first time for the Mules in a CC game since 2015.
Sophomore
Jane Banahan began the inning on second and scored the go-ahead run when a sacrifice bunt by sophomore
Gillian Zack was thrown away.Â
After a double by senior
Sarah Karmazyn, sophomore
Dara DiMaiolo drove in two more runs with a single.
Freshman
Justine Bergara set down the Green Terror (8-11, 1-1) without allowing a run in the bottom of the 10th to nail down the win. Bergara pitched four innings of scoreless, one-hit relief.Â
Muhlenberg's first two runs came on the first career home run for junior
Sara Fallon (pictured above).
The Mules had eight hits in the opener but could not push home a run, leaving the bases loaded in the third and stranding the tying runs in scoring position in the seventh.
Karmazyn had three hits in each game; her double in the 10th was the 100th hit of her career.
