The Muhlenberg softball team scored twice in the top of the seventh to defeat Cedar Crest, 3-1, in the second game of a doubleheader. The Falcons won the first game, 4-2.
The nightcap was knotted at 1-1 before sophomore
Brianna Kessler led off the seventh with a double to the gap in left-center. She advanced the third on a wild pitch and scored the go-ahead run
(pictured above) on a sacrifice fly to center by senior
Kristin Oberg.
Sophomore
Raya Kunes, the next batter, gave Muhlenberg (6-8) some insurance by driving a pitch over the fence in right field for her first career home run.
The Falcons (5-6) got their leadoff batter on in the bottom of the seventh, but senior
Genna Cicchetti snared a line drive and stepped on first to complete an unassisted double play. The next batter popped out to end the game.
Kunes went the distance on a five-hitter to earn the win. She struck out two and did not allow a runner past first base in the last four innings.
Kunes
(pictured below, celebrating her home run with Cicchetti) is the first Mule to pitch seven innings and hit a home run in the same game since 2011.
Muhlenberg fell behind 3-0 after three innings of the first game. Oberg hit a two-run single to bring the Mules within one in the fifth, but Cedar Crest scored a run in the sixth and held on for the win.
Senior
Sarah Karmazyn had three hits in the twinbill.Â
