Volleyball Goes Down Swinging in Playoffs

The Muhlenberg volleyball team made a late push but was swept at Franklin & Marshall in the first round of the Centennial Conference playoffs.

After dropping the first two sets, 25-13 and 25-15, the Mules (13-13) found themselves behind 18-13 in the third. Following a Diplomat service error, consecutive kills by juniors Christina Dalton and Alyssa Faville and freshman Christina Marcin cut the gap to one at 18-17.

Muhlenberg closed to within one again three others times - at 19-18 on an F&M attack error, at 21-20 on Marcin's service ace, and at 22-21 on a kill by sophomore Esmae Oehler. But the Diplomats (17-8) scored the final three points to close out the match.

Oehler finished with 6 kills and Marcin with 5, ending the season as only the third pair of Mule teammates to average 3.00 kills per set in the same season.

Faville's match-high 13 digs ran her season total to 522, tying for the third-most in a season in program history. Her season average of 5.67 digs per set was the second-best ever by a Mule.

In her final match, senior Emma Eglinton (pictured above) recorded 13 assists to finish fifth on Muhlenberg's all-time list with 1823 in her career.
