Muhlenberg ended the first half on a big surge and went on to defeat King's, 76-63, in its final tuneup before beginning Centennial Conference play.
Sophomore
Jayson Williams-Johnson scored a game-high 23 points, becoming the third different Mule player with a 20-point game this season. Senior
Tommy McGuire narrowly missed his second double-double of the season, finishing with 12 points and 9 rebounds, and graduate student
Dan Gaines added 11 points and 6 assists.
The Mules (3-0) trailed 16-9 eight minutes into the game before outscoring the Monarchs (2-1) by a 35-12 margin the rest of the half to take a 16-point lead into the break. Muhlenberg made its last seven field-goal attempts of the half, including a dunk by McGuire and three-pointers by junior
Giovanni Rubino and sophomore
Charlie Gillikin.
King's gradually cut into the margin in the second half, drawing to within five at 61-56 with eight minutes to play. But the Mules scored the next seven points, with Williams-Johnson making a runner and a three before dishing to McGuire for a layup, to reclaim a double-digit lead.
