The Muhlenberg men's soccer team tied Gettysburg, 1-1, in its final game of the regular season.
The Mules (6-5-6, 3-1-5) will travel back to Gettysburg (9-3-5, 4-2-3) on Tuesday for the first round of the Centennial Conference playoffs. Muhlenberg finished in fifth place in the CC, losing just one league match for the first time since 2014, the last time it qualified for the CC playoffs. The Bullets, ranked fifth in Region V by United Soccer Coaches and seventh by the NCAA, finished in fourth, one point ahead of the Mules.
Muhlenberg was in position to leapfrog Gettysburg in the standings and earn the right to host the playoff game after sophomore
Jason Edelstein scored his third goal of the season off a long through ball from classmate
Noah Pietila (pictured above) in the final 10 minutes of the first half.
The lead stood up until 13:35 remained in the game, when the Bullets put in a rebound for the equalizer.
Freshman Ben Mulford made 7 saves in goal, including a big one with less than two minutes to play. Gettysburg had a free kick from the corner, and although Mulford missed on his initial attempt to pluck the ball out of the air, he recovered to punch the ball away with his left hand and preserve the tie.
Mulford also got help from junior
Zack Mikuta, who made a defensive save late in the first half.
Muhlenberg tied a school record with its sixth draw of the season in the year when the NCAA eliminated overtime for tie games.
