Despite falling to Franklin & Marshall in its last home match, the Muhlenberg volleyball team remained a live for a Centennial Conference playoff berth.
The Mules (13-11, 5-5) are in seventh place in the CC, a half-game behind Gettysburg, Dickinson and Haverford. The most likely path to the playoffs for Muhlenberg includes a Gettysburg win against eighth-place Ursinus, a Dickinson win against ninth-place Washington, and a Haverford loss to second-place Swarthmore. The Mules, who close out their regular season with a non-conference match at Arcadia on Saturday, would then tie Haverford for the final spot and earn the berth on the basis of their head-to-head win.
The first set against the Diplomats (15-8, 7-2) was tight the whole way, with neither team ever leading by more than three points. F&M held a 22-19 advantage before Muhlenberg stormed back with the next three points on kills by sophomore
Esmae Oehler and freshman
Christina Marcin sandwiched around a Diplomat attack error.
F&M scored the next two points, however, closed out the set at 25-23 on a block, and won the last two sets by more comfortable margins (25-17 and 25-13).
Oehler led the Mules with 11 kills. Senior
Emma Eglinton, playing in her final home match, finished with 19 assists to move into fifth place on the Mules' all-time list with 1779 for her career. Junior
Alyssa Faville led the defense with 22 digs.
