Volleyball Notches Big Win at Haverford

The Muhlenberg volleyball team came from behind to win in four sets at Haverford.

One of the top programs in the Centennial Conference, Haverford (9-8, 3-3) is the defending CC runner-up and has made the playoffs 17 of the last 20 seasons. The win gave a boost to Muhlenberg's playoff hopes: With four matches remaining in the regular season, the Mules (11-8, 3-3) are in a three-way tie for fourth place in the CC.

On a night when three Mules reached double figures in kills, it was the reigning CC defensive player of the week, junior Alyssa Faville, who put the finishing touches on the match with her lone kill.

After the Fords took the opening set, 25-23, Muhlenberg came back to take the next two, 25-20 and 25-22.

In the fourth set, Haverford had two set points with a chance to send the match to a fifth. At 24-22, junior Isabella Pontrelli and sophomore Rachel Jacobs combined for a block that landed just inside the line. And at 24-23, the Fords committed a block error to tie the set at 24-all.

The Mules gained a match point when junior Christina Dalton's ensuing serve could not be played. And Muhlenberg made good on that match point when Faville alertly saw most of the Haverford players up towards the net after a long rally and pushed the ball to the back corner of the court, where it landed to give the Mules the win.

Sophomore Esmae Oehler led Muhlenberg with 12 kills, while junior Pontrelli and Jacobs recorded apiece. The 11 kills were a career high for Jacobs, and Pontrelli added a career-high 5 blocks.

Faville led four Mule players in double figures in digs with 30, a career high for a four-set match. Senior Caleya Tereska had a season-high 15 digs, and junior Julia Ficon tied her season high with 13.

Senior Emma Eglinton also recorded 15 digs and added 42 assists for the second time in her last four matches.
