The Muhlenberg men's basketball team rallied late but could not catch up and fell to Haverford, 68-62.
Sophomore
Giovanni Rubino set a career high for the second straight game, scoring 19 points. Freshman
Jayson Williams-Johnson added 12 points.
The Mules (5-9, 2-5) trailed by 13 points at halftime and was down by as many as 19 points, 44-25, five minutes into the second half. Gradually, Muhlenberg clawed its way back into the game, getting the margin down to 10 on a pair of free throws by Williams-Johnson at the 9:30 mark.Â
Williams-Johnson drove in for a layup to cut the margin to single digits, at 55-47, and junior
Tommy McGuire followed with a three to make it a five-point game with 6:29 to play.
The Fords (8-7, 4-4) kept Muhlenberg from getting any closer, however, until a fast-break layup by Rubino
(pictured above) made it 64-60 with 1:33 left. Rubino sank another shot with 28.5 ticks on the clock to draw the Mules to within three points, but Haverford put the game away by making three free throws.
McGuire finished with 8 points and 7 rebounds. Senior
Noah Watson, who helped organize Type 1 Diabetes Awareness Night to raise awareness for the condition he has, added 7 points off the bench.
