Senior quarterback Michael Hnatkowsky surpassed the 10,000 career passing yard threshold, leading the Muhlenberg football team to a 23-0 victory at McDaniel.
Leading 3-0, the Mules (3-1, 2-1) scored the opening touchdown of the game midway through the second quarter. On the eighth play of the drive, Hnatkowsky, with the defense draped all over him in the backfield, connected with Zach Deldin on a 48-yard touchdown, giving the Mules a 10-0 lead.
Hnatkowsky, who became the second player in program history to reach 10,000 career passing yards, finished the contest with 355 yards and three touchdowns. His 10,131Â career passing yards to date rank him fourth all-time in Centennial Conference history.
Hnatkowsky's 300-yard effort marks the third time in his career where he has passed for 300 or more yards in back-to-back games.
The Mules dominated on defense throughout the entire game, holding the Green Terror (1-3, 1-2) to just 183 yards of total offense. Senior Spencer Kirin led the way for the Mules on defense, recording seven tackles, including a sack. Senior Pat Palmer, senior Kyle Dormer, and sophomore Keshon Davila combined for 14 tackles, while Palmer and Davila each recorded a sack.
The defense continued to dominate in the second half, controlling the pace of play while also forcing a key turnover late in the game. With the Green Terror driving down the field with less than a minute on the clock, sophomore Matt Papa intercepted a jump ball at the Mules' 11-yard line, preserving the second shutout in the past four games.
The Mules came alive on offense in the second half of action, scoring on the first possession of the third quarter. Hnatkowsky led the team downfield, completing all four of his passes including, a three-yard touchdown pass to senior Michael Feaster, pushing the lead to 16-0. The Mules tacked on one more touchdown later in the third quarter to solidify the win, with Hnatkowsky once again connecting with Feaster, this time for a 15-yard touchdown.
Feaster finished the game with nine catches for 154 yards and two scores, while senior Mitch Daniel added eight catches for 104 yards.
