The Muhlenberg volleyball team improved its home record to 4-1 with a 3-0 sweep of Rutgers-Newark.
The Mules (6-4) got an exceptional performance from junior setter
Emma Eglinton, who finished with a career-high 6 kills in only 9 attempts, to go along with 29 assists and 12 digs. Sophomore
Christina Dalton put down a match-high 11 kills and hit .318, while sophomore
Isabella Pontrelli recorded 8 kills.
The first set was tied 10-10 before Muhlenberg went on an 8-1 run to take a big lead. Eglinton recorded 5 assists, a kill and an ace to account for seven of the eight points. The Scarlet Raiders made a late run, closing a 22-12 deficit to 23-21, but the Mules closed out the set on two Rutgers errors.
The second set was close throughout and was tied 20-20 before the Mules scored the final five points. Pontrelli and Dalton combined on a block to make it 24-20, and Dalton's kill ended the set.
Rutgers led 7-6 in the third set, but Muhlenberg scored nine of the next 10 points to take a 15-8 advantage. The seventh kill of the match by senior
Megan Ray (pictured above) closed out the set at 25-14 and completed the sweep.
Sophomores
Alyssa Faville (13) and
Julia Ficon (10) both reached double figures in digs, helping the Mules hold the Scarlet Raiders to .086 hitting.
