Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Drops 4OT Heartbreaker

The Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team played another tight game against a team in the national rankings, falling 11-10 in quadruple overtime at Dickinson.

The Red Devils entered the game three spots outside the top 20 in the national Division III poll. Last week, the Mules took 16th-ranked Franklin & Marshall to the final minutes before falling, 10-8. Both games were non-conference contests.

Senior Ethan Grossman scored 4 goals for his 15th career hat trick and added an assist, moving to within two of the program's all-time record of 79 career assists.

Dickinson took a 3-2 lead two minutes into the second quarter, but junior longstick middie Maxwell Seeber scooped up the ground ball off the ensuing faceoff, went right to goal and buried the shot for his second career goal. That kicked off a 5-0 run that included two goals by Grossman and one each by seniors Brandon Moyer (pictured above) and PJ Lombara.

The Red Devils cut the Mules' 7-3 lead to 8-7 in the third quarter before freshman Wyatt Malia scored back-to-back goals to extend the margin to 10-7.

Muhlenberg was blanked for the rest of the game, however.

Each team took shots in all four overtime periods. After Mule sophomore goalie Max May was called for a penalty in the second overtime, freshman Stephen Krug made a save on the first shot he faced in college, with the game on the line.

May came back in to make his 15th save midway through the fourth extra period, but the ball bounced right to a Dickinson player for an easy putaway to end the marathon.

Senior Matt Hager led the defense with 3 caused turnovers and 4 ground balls, while Seeber, senior Michael Fodi and sophomore Connor Riebling scooped up 3 ground balls apiece.

The game was the second-longest in program history; the only other quadruple-overtime game, against Scranton in 2012, lasted 8 seconds longer.
