For the second time in three nights, the Muhlenberg women's basketball team lost a close Centennial Conference road game.
Swarthmore used a big second quarter to defeat the Mules, 57-49. In both this game and Tuesday's 54-45 loss at Ursinus, neither team ever led by more than 10 points.
The Mules (3-3, 1-3) led 13-6 after one quarter but were outscored 27-11 in the second and went into halftime trailing 33-24.
After falling behind by 10, at 37-27, early in the third quarter, Muhlenberg went on an 8-0 run to cut the spread to two, 37-35, with three minutes left in the period. The Mules had three possessions to tie or take the lead but came up empty, and the Garnet (5-1, 3-0) led 42-38 at the end of the quarter.Â
Swarthmore made a three-pointer on the first possession of the fourth quarter, and Muhlenberg never got closer than five points after that.
