The Muhlenberg men's basketball team staged a late comeback but fell short at Ursinus, 77-71.
The Bears (4-1, 2-0) led for most of the game, building a nine-point advantage late in the first half. The Mules (2-5, 0-2) clawed back and tied the game at 59-all midway through the second half on a three-point play by senior
Dan Gaines, but Ursinus immediately went on a 7-0 run to build its lead back.
It was 73-65 with 6:34 remaining, and although the Bears did not make a field goal the rest of the way, Muhlenberg was never able to draw even. The closest the Mules got was 73-71 with a minute left. Ursinus went 4-for-4 from the line in the final minute to put the game away.
Gaines led all scorers with 27 points. Junior
Tommy McGuire (pictured above) finished with 6 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.
