The Muhlenberg baseball team went deep three times on the day but fell to Ohio Northern 15-5 and Widener 15-11.
The Mules (5-4) plated their 11 runs against Widener in three big innings. Sophomore
Thomas Rodgers led off the top of the second with his first home run of the season over the fence in left field. Classmate
Evan Spano plated a second run with a sacrifice fly before senior
John Serruto smacked a double to left field with two outs to bring in two more runs.
Trailing by four after four, junior
Justin Kimmel launched his first career home run to left field in a four-run fifth inning pulling the Mules within one. The Pride (4-4) pushed its lead back to two before Muhlenberg took its first lead of the night at 11-10 after a three-run seventh. A pair of runs scored on a failed pickoff attempt to tie the game before sophomore
Ryan Hebert singled through the left side to bring in Kimmel for the lead. Widener scored five runs in the bottom of the frame.
Junior
Cameron Miller's first round-tripper of the year sparked a five-run fifth inning against Ohio Northern. Five batters later, Rodgers bombed a one-hopper over the center field fence, driving in two runs with a ground rule double. Kimmel drove in one with an RBI single to left before scoring on a single by junior
Robert Cappadona.
Rodgers finished the day with three hits, all coming with extra bases (a home run and two doubles). Cappadona, Hebert and Serruto all also recorded three base knocks.
