Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Wins 2020 Opener

Sophomore Dallas Hoffman scored a career-high 29 points as the Muhlenberg men's basketball team overcame a 12-point second half deficit to defeat Sarah Lawrence, 95-85, in its first game of 2020.

Sophomore Dan Gaines recorded his second career double-double with 15 points and a career-high 10 assists. Sophomore Nate Henty Brown (15 points) and junior Spencer Duke (12) also scored in double figures.

The Mules (9-2) made 15 three-pointers, one off the school record, including eight in 10 attempts in a 28-9 second-half run that turned the tide of the game.

Muhlenberg trailed, 61-49, with just over 13 minutes to play before sophomore Nicholas Chudy drained a three. Another three by Chudy and one by Henty Brown, combined with three defensive stops, brought the Mules within three, at 61-58.

After the Gryphons (4-5) made a pair of free throws, Hoffman hit back-to-back threes to put Muhlenberg ahead, 64-63.

The game was tied at 68 before Gaines knocked down a three-pointer to give the Mules the lead for good.

Two more three-pointers, from Henty Brown and Hoffman, extended the margin to seven at the four-minute mark. The Mules went 9-for-12 from the line in the remaining time to ice the win.

Muhlenberg finished the game by shooting 86.7 percent from the field (13-for-15) after facing its 12-point deficit.

Hoffman made 11 of 15 shots in topping his previous career high of 21 points. He ended the first half with a steal and breakaway dunk and was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field in the second half.

Gaines (pictured above) also was perfect in the final 20 minutes, scoring 13 of his 15 points on 4-for-4 shooting from the field.
