Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Ties No. 5 Messiah

The Muhlenberg men's soccer team held its own at one of the toughest place to play in Division III, battling Messiah to a 1-1 draw.

The Falcons, who have won 11 national championships since 2000, came into the game with a 98-5-5 home record this decade. They also were ranked fifth in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll.

Messiah (1-2-1) rolled up a 10-2 advantage in shots in the first half, scoring a goal in the 23rd minute, but the rest of the game was played more evenly.

The Mules (2-0-1) had a 7-6 edge in shots from the start of the second half on. They put one of those shots in with just 3:41 remaining in regulation when senior Kevin Hagan scored a goal for the third straight game. Senior Zach Cimring (pictured above) assisted for his first point of the season.

Sophomore Stephen Carton had Muhlenberg's best chance to score a "Golden Goal," sending a hard shot high after a run through the Falcon defense.

Messiah won a corner kick in the frantic closing seconds, but senior Raymond Leto (who made four saves) plucked the service out of the air to preserve the tie.
