Volleyball Splits Day

Fresh off a pair of wins on the first day of the Buttermaker Tournament, the Muhlenberg volleyball team made it three in a row with a 3-1 win over Penn State Abington to start the second day. The Mules closed out the weekend with a 3-0 setback at the hands of Stockton.

Carrying over momentum from Friday night, Muhlenberg stormed out of the gates by scoring 10 of the first 12 points against the Nittany Lions (4-8), before taking the set in convincing fashion, 25-12. With the match tied 1-1, the Mules regained their form in the third set by opening a four-point lead in the middle of the set before ending it on an 8-2 run.

Muhlenberg broke a 7-7 tie in the fourth set by going on an 11-point run behind the serve of senior Tara Register. A few rallies later, a kill from senior Maggie Enestvedt put the Mules up 20-11 lead and set up the final five points of the match behind the serve of freshman Emma Eglinton

Enestvedt racked up 15 kills in the match to lead the offense. She was joined in double-figures by juniors Madison Forrest (12) and Alycia Long (12). Long's dozen kills are a career high. Eglinton (21) and senior Gabrielle Neumann (25) combined for 46 assists.

Senior Tara Register led the attack against Stockton with seven kills, and chipped in on the defensive end by tying for the team lead with eight digs. She finished the day with 25 digs and 10 kills.

Joining Register with eight digs against Stockton was senior Laura Boll, who also recorded a season-high five aces.

Enestvedt totaled 19 kills on the day; she moved into ninth place all-time with 948.

Junior Maya Illovsky was named to the all-tournament team after totaling 62 digs, four aces and seven assists in three matches as the libero.
