Despite a strong defensive effort and a milestone night for sophomore
Ethan Grossman, the Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team suffered its second consecutive one-goal loss, 7-6 to Washington College.
The seven goals matched the fewest scored by the Shoremen (4-6, 2-2) this season. The Mules (8-3, 1-2) allowed only one goal in the first half, when they held Washington to 14 shots.
Two goals by freshman
James Dalimonte and one by sophomore
Brandon Moyer staked Muhlenberg to a 3-1 lead in the first quarter. Neither team scored in the second quarter, however, and Washington scored three times in the first five minutes of the second half to take its first lead, at 4-3.
Grossman's goal late in the third tied the score and untied him with Mickey Norton '08 atop the program's all-time scoring list. Grossman has 124 career points in just 29 games.
The score was tied again after the team traded goals - with Dalimonte finishing his hat trick on a rocket shot with 9:32 to play - but the Shoremen netted the next two goals to open up a 7-5 lead.
Freshman
Cooper Richards scored off the ensuing faceoff to cut the gap to one goal with just over two minutes left. The Mules had three more possessions but could not get off a potential game-tying shot.
Freshman
Maxwell Seeber (pictured above) picked up a career-high nine ground balls, and senior
Nolan Robbins caused a pair of turnovers.
