Freshman
Genna Cicchetti opened the day with a three-hit effort before senior
Kristina Qualben tied a school record with four hits in the nightcap of a doubleheader in which the Muhlenberg softball team fell to Ursinus, 7-2 and 5-4
Â
Qualben's first two hits came in the extra-base variety and played a role in the Mules (18-16, 3-9 CC) taking a 4-0 lead. Following a leadoff double to right center in the second, she came around to score the game's first run before sending a two-run blast to the same place the following inning. In between, freshman
Kristin Oberg scored on an
Allyson Sweeney groundout.
Â
Qualben is the second Mule to go 4-for-4 in a game this season, joining fellow senior
Kristy Selby who did so against Misericordia in March. Her 35
th career two-bagger and 19
th career round-tripper give the senior 55 extra-base hits in a Mule uniform.
Â
The hosts went on to score a run in each of the next two frames, before plating three in the bottom of the fifth. Muhlenberg threatened in both the sixth and seventh innings, having a runner reach third in the sixth and runners at second and third with two outs in the seventh.
Â
Cicchetti (pictured above), who drove in Qualben in the second game, shined in the opener with her third three-hit game of the season. The frosh scored both of Muhlenberg's runs.
Â
Oberg batted at both ends of the order, collecting two hits in the nine-hole in game one and one hit from the leadoff spot in game two. Classmate
Sarah Raab, who had a double in the opener, saw her hit-streak come to an end at seven games, however drew a walk in the nightcap to extend her streak of reaching base safely to eight.
Â
Oberg, Cicchetti, Sweeney and sophomore
Elise Enslin each finished with one RBI.
